How do you deal with stress?

Some people get agitated,

Some people get weepy,

Some people get bitchy,

Some people go nutz.

As for me..... I LAU SAI.

This 2 weeks of working in sub-specialities areas renders me literally toilet-handicapped.

Seriously, ENT and Opthalmology clinics are too much for me.

Not talking /understanding their languages just isolate me to a mere insignificant dumb ass.

For once, I felt so fragile and retarded. Gone with my usual confidence and charisma. MUAHAHA.

I lau sai every morning before clinics.

That reminds me of the trauma I went through when observing a normal vaginal child birth....

The doctor urged the lady to PUSH PUSH PUSH...

Subconsciously I tended to bear down myself..like what you do when trying to make a hard solid poo...

I ended up LAU SAI for ONE BLOODY WHOLE DAY.

I guess that's my reaction to stress..

Which reminds me of....*sheepisH* how I used to bully my little brother.

He was 12 months old.

I used to stand quietly in front of him with my face about an inch away from his, and at that very moment just right before he opened his eyes from the usual nap , I would go BOOO!! Not surprisingly, he startled and cried.

I guess I was a bit over the top when I got told off by ah ma because his poo was GREEN following the emotional torture.

You know...biliary reflex. Your gall bladder tends to secrete bile in stresses like this.

Imagine when a person is rushed into the ED for cardiac arrest.
Don't look out for me.
The first instinct of mine is to rush towards the toilet instead of doing all the right things.
*slap*

Oh well, let's hope that by the end of the week I will kiss goodbye to my LAU SAI Syndrome and laughing my head off in the plane to Christchurch.

I LOVE EXERCISING, especially swimming.

It makes me feel as light as a feather.

I love the adrenaline pumping moments,

The air sucking times,

The sweats that are eager to be pushed out,

The pains and ache the following day....

I am thinking of taking up running again.

The last time I did that ( for merely 2 weeks), I lost my butt and never got it back.

That's a sad pathetic story. Don't think anyone wants to dwell on that.

Not sure if I can afford to lose anything now.

Or do I have anything to lose??? *Wallow*

SAD.

Sister's baby is going to pop out soon.

I am going to be an auntie.

I will make him/her call me LENG LUI instead of the traditional boring way.

MUAHAHA. It's easy. Just reveal that my name is Leng Lui Loo. LLL.

It's cool to be called that.

Just like how I want to name my future daughter- Gorgeous XXX.

HAHAHA. I will be sorry my ass off if she turns out to be pretty ugly though. But, at least she can be called GEORGOUS all the time. A tiny consolation to the torn soul.

SLAP*

I am nutz.

Have you ever come across people who are so 'religious' that they can't stop talking about God???

'JESUS ! This is damn hard.'

'JESUS!! I broke my watch.'

'JESUS!!! Are you alright?''

I am quite anal when comes to people who love to use JESUS as 'Oh shit' representatively.

I have several collegues who are exactly like that.

And today, one of them really got on my nerve when he cried out for Jesus after accidentally spilling the coffee.

' So xxxxx, I can't believe you ask Jesus to save your spilt coffee.' I casually remarked.

Then I can't hold it back anymore and make this really satirical comment:

You must be really religious. You have a great relationship with Jesus , haven't you? I should be more like you as you cant stop praising Him constantly.'

He turned red and muttered "Sorry'' before buggering off.

Seriously, people should be more sensitive with certain glorious words they use.

SHIT is not as smelly as it can get than using JESUS before your exclamation mark.

Funny enough, most of the people who do that are atheists.

They keep calling out for HIM daily but denying HIS presence.

SUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!

GOD has mercy.

A random remark that I saw on the notice board today:

Post menopausal women don't get hot flushes, but A SURGE OF POWER.

What da....

Yeah right, they are powerful enough to emit golden fire balls bombarding the surrounding people ( which I meant to say, their post-menopausal mood swings).

Opthalmology Clinic again tommorrow!!!! *SHRIEK*

I did some study so hopefully I can adapt to speaking their language tomorrow.

Let's hope I wont' get grilled.

Seriously, these clinics are the most stressful ones I have ever had...especially with a pathetic miserable collision with the big boss last week.

GOD HAS MERCY.

I have a super rough week.

I started my week by being told off in Opthalmology clinics.

I forgotten most of my stuff.

What do you expect from someone who has just a week of Opthalmology last year?

Anyway, that's my fault. I should have done some study.

Ok, that's fine, I got over it. The consultant sort of make up to me at the end anyway. ....I must say that it's nice of him, in his..own way.

Then I overslept and bunked my ENT clinics. Someone is very unhappy about this.

Following that, I got snapped by one migrainous young girl in After Hours Doctors. ' Fucking shit. Just give me the fucking Pethidine!!!' Yeah right, and maybe a full dosage of MORPHINE too?
She apparently felt so much better after 2 minutes of Pethidine injection when Pethidine takes much more longer to be effective. DRUG SEEKER.

And I ended my week by having a chap around my age came in complaining of testicular pain.

*headache*

I have to act cool bananas and examined his..'banana'.

*SIEN*

How interesting can my week be?

Syl was talking about wanting to take a year off after graduating.

I am talking about wanting to study LAW after medicine.

CRISIS ALARM is going off.

好像。。。。

We are trained to encourage women to breastfeed.

Breast milk is the 'cheap', 'sterile','yummy' and 'accessible' at any time (Yeah, like your breast leaks due to any sound stimuli- a baby crying during lactation).

From time to time, we have been constantly trying to insert the RIGHT mentality into the women. Some nurses /doctors even despised women who choose to bottle feed their baby, saying that it's an erroneous idea and baby will have higher risk of ending up to be obese, more GI infections, asthmatic , ear infections and so on.

So, some smart people managed to come out with a poster conveying the message : GET YOUR BABY ON TO YOUR BREASTS.

Honestly, whenever I pass by the ward, I cringe at the sight of the poster.
First of all , they chose an African baby.
To me, an African baby= malnourished= hungry=gobbling down anything...including the breasts.

Hence, it seems very much to me that the baby is GNAWING the breast instead of sucking.

OUCHHHHHHHHHHH~~~ ( some mothers will experience this definitely)

That put me off of breastfeeding, period.

It's hard to be polite .

This evening during my walk back home, a car honked at me. I looked up and saw lots of fury hands waving at me. Apparently it's a car jammed packed with men.

What's your first instinct?

To wave back, flash a smile back or simply...ignore it.

If it's in Malaysia, I will probably act blind.

When I was back home not too long ago, a car kindly stopped to let me cross the road. Politely I nodded at it as a gesture of appreciation, and the next second a head popped up and shouted behind me: yo.. siao jie siao jie, deng yi xia, jiao shen me ming zhi????

Conclusively, good manners or subconscious provocative gesture? Debatable.

In New Zealand, I am not too sure how to respond.

I choose to ignore.

But I feel bad.

Lots of my friends got yelled at like: FUCK**G Asians.

At least I am lucky enough to miss this derogatory mocking. Furthermore, am mo langs are friendlier in an innocent kind of way, kan????

So I decided to be more jolly, waving back at them as if they are my long -lost old mates.

The last time I did that, the car stopped and a few men came out inviting me to join their party.

Instinctively I pulled out the same old trick, looking at them confused and signalled that I do not understand them. 'Me...no....Speak..no..English...me..u ..is...who.' That did the trick and pissed them off.

So, I am yet to have the answer of 'how to s' in situation as such.

So far, my clinics never fail to amuse me everyday.

It's more like medical services targeted at a completely different ethnic group, 50% of the attendants are Chinese. Unexpectedly, that's when the funny stories start to unfold themselves.

1st day :

Overwhelmed by seeing Chinese people, especially those cute old couples from China that argue or fight in front of you, and demand you to judge who's the right party.

Met a black man who asked me whether I am married or not. My GP got irritated and asked him to be professional. He nodded in acknowledgement and popped another random statement: I LOVE CHINA WOMEN.

One word: *****

2nd Day:

This 60 yr plus lady from China showered me with praises like how young and pretty I am bla bla bla . I sheepishly thanked her (and secretly or should I say, obviously was on clouds nine ) when she added the dreadful statement: Everytime I see people like you I got envious and feel like cutting your face with a knife. I can't help it!

.....................................................................................................

3rd Day:

Another woman from China again brought her father to consultation. She ended up writing her name and phone in a piece of paper asking me to call her when I am free. She wanted to cook me SI CHUAN foods! WOOHOO! I love hot spicy foods. She wanted my cell phone so that she can pick me up to the Saturday Dogs Competition or something.

I would love to say yes, but relunctantly, I have to keep within my professional boundaries. OH well.

4th Day

This poor Indian lady came in with complaints of hyperpigmentation. Unfortunately, she is very dark ( like the South Indians), it is very difficult to identify those what she called 'black rashes' on her face. She pointed at me and said she used to be as fair as me until she got the rashes. GP replied her flatly that: you are just DARK.

For 30 seconds I felt like laughing when I saw the look in her face. Honestly, I sympathize her still.

5th Day

This Malaysian woman came in to check if she is HIV or STD positive. She got over- excited when we passed her negative and started to talk about her stories.

She hold my hands and told me matter-of-factly:

you know, who knows how many women our guys sleep with. But sometimes..like. ..one day you know..this guy asked me to his place for a visit, so you know la...it was raining so heavily so I went in loh. Then he quickly took of his clothes wanted to have sex with me you know..haiyaa.. I was scared..but what can I do, you know or not.. (NO I DON"T, and DON"T WANT TO KNOW), his stairs is so high, what if he pushed me down the stairs if I hit him?? My brain will get burst..so not worth it if I die right..he can say I accidentally fail down right...haiyoo..my brain will burst you know...will BURST!! That stairs so HIGH, so HIGH, will burst you know. I tell you , young lady, if somebody wants to have sex, you cannot fight, just give it to him lah! At least if you got STD you can get treated, if your brain burst, can't even live lah! Like that no good right!'

It's good to know that my brain still works on its own.
But geez...

' I hope I can be just like you.'

Some people think that it's cool to be me.

I have almost everything. Almost.

Once in a blue moon, all I want is to be ME.

To do the things I love, to be with the one that I want to be, and to live my life in the unconventional and parodoxical way.

That's when SHIT happens.

It's cool to fly out of Dunedin, get out from my usual circle of friends and lifestyle, and catch up with old friends.

I think I am decompensating... Few months left in Dunedin, but I am losing it.

I never really like this town.

Too much unspoken memories.

Too much ungrateful responsibilities.

For all you know, I will be crying my eyes out the day before I leave here for good.

Women are enigmatic.

I spent a day in the Hospice before leaving this morning. The joy and peacefulness the dying patients emitting perplexed me.

Those who have been through tribulations and sufficent sufferings will appreciate simple life more than those who do not.

Maybe, maybe it's time for me to embrace what I have and make the best out of everything.

Cha kept reminding me that I am here for clinics, not HOLIDAYING.

Who cares. I love to take things not too seriously. Nothing worth too much stressing.

Having said that, being her senior I think I should set up a perfect example. Perhaps doing some study in her presence to motivate her to strive through medical school.

That's for my very own sake too, I suppose.
