Cant wait for another ward 48 dinner next week!!!!
Traditionally ward 48 dinners are very famous and enjoyable. First of all the restaurants chosen will be few of the top dinning areas in Singapore, and secondly the wines served are super good!!! Even a beer person like me couldn't help but got drunk over 10 glasses of fresh brewed wine last dinner.
My consultant is an endocrinologist that loves wines. He is more like a wine taster and has countless collections of good high quality wines. Every 2 months he will invite all his fellow Registrars, Medical officers and houseofficers to a great dinner and brought us his favourite wines.
This is like my 4th month in ward 48 and happily I get to attend the dinner twice!
Last dinner was at Ming Kee, an absolute gem located along MacPherson Rd. The dinner costed boss SGD671 which was pretty cheap for a full-course dinner for two tables, including a gigantic crab each, without any service charge, GST, nor corkage for unlimited usage of tall Mikasa glassess. Boss brought us a pair of Aussie whites
2007 Moss Wood chardonnay and
2004 Leeuwin Estate Art Series chardonnay. Both hail from the Margaret River wine region, and both were pale lemon yellow in color, with initial notes of citrus, lime, and minerals (more with the Leeuwin).
The senior table with registrars and consultants from ward 48
The junior table of medical officers and house officersThe junior table polishing off 4 bottles (
2000 D’Arenberg Dead Arm, 1996 Haut-Bages-Liberal, Penfolds Bin 407 (vintage?), as well as a German riesling) and becoming totally disinhibited in the process. Dinesh started to talk nonsenses and staggered up to the registrar telling him stories that were quite irrelevant. He then staggered back to his table laughing and smilling inappropriately. Our big brother registrar took a peep over our table and got back to his senior table exclaiming : I think he is gone.
YH is even funnier. He kept drinking and assuring us that he wouldnt get drunk while knocking down a few wine glasses leaving our table a mess. I heard the story today that he went off to Karaoke after the dinner and passed out on the cushion. To make matters interesting, I heard this from our boss the consultant who whispered to us quietly the next morning! YH apparently was malfunctioned the next day and running to the toilet intermittently during ward round vomitting. He later developed Mallory weis tear with blood in the vomitus. My registrar prescribed him omeprazole. He was totally screwed. :)
Oh , as for me, I was drunk that night too. The boys kept serving me wine and I ended up finishing 10 glasses of them. No one really knew that I was drunk. I was sitting there obediently and smiling, not entirely disinhibited. Or maybe that's a way of disinhibition for me? The headache that came the following day was disgusting.
Overall it was a fun night mostly because we really can drink like a fish. Our boss thought this was by far the best showing from the juniors. HEHEHE...
